Hallo,
I hadnt had much studio time until yesterday but for wonderful reasons. Last weekend I took a long weekend and went up near Savannah to visit my Daughter, Son-in-law. In addition to Easter they did a gender reveal for their expected August baby. I will be a first time Grandma to a baby girl!!!
So yesterday I got back to work on 2 small paintings and was really happy with the results!!!
The first 2 pics were the begining phases. I used a photo of an Icelandic pony (copyright free) and printed it onto rice paper in Balck and white( I dont have a color printed as of yet...) The great thing about rice paper and encaustic in that the paper pretty much disappears into the wax and leaves you just the photo.
Next I added some color with pan pastels and I almost stopped there with the pony because it looked really nice. But, I really wanted some texture on these pieces so yesterday I took out my hot pens and went to work.
The third picture is how I started the day yesterday. I only got the one finished - adding the texture took me about 5 or 6 hours. The pan pastel layer got completely covered with wax. I used a thin fountain pen type tip and a small iron tip to paint the horse with.
The 4th picture shows in progress - the head and mane were done at that point but not the body. And the last 3 pics are the finished painting. The last pic I tilted sideways trying to get you a better view of the texture.
I am not entirely sure of her tittle yet but am going with 'Mane Attraction' right now. She is 7.5 by 7.5 inches , painted onto a cradled wood panel.
All for today - Take Care
Tera
