Koi

Hallo,
Another encaustic wax painting for you today. This one is 12 by 12 inches - 1 inch deep onto a cradled wood panel(pretty much all of the encaustic is painted onto a wood panel)
The first pic has about 10 layers to it already - about 4 layers base wax and then a layer of oil sticks, followed by layers of pan pastels and shellac with bronze mica powders in it - with some layers of plain wax inbetween….
The second photo shows a couple more layers of pan pastels and shellac and then the first 2 koi fish. The koi fish on this painting are done with a stencil and pan pastels.
And the last photo is alternating layers of wax, pan pastel, shellac with stenciled koi fish - hopefully making it look like the koi are at different depths of the water.
BTW - the shellac once painted on has to be burned in to burn off the alcohol in it, and every layer of wax or pan pastel has to be heat set also - I usually use a torch - that way every layer is sealed to the layer beneath.
This painting is going to a friend of mine!

Copper mermaid

Hallo,
A couple months ago I played around with doing some acrylic pour paintings. I really liked the colors in this one and decided to add this wonderful mermaid image to it.
This mermaid is a digital image from Holly Durr and I colored her with prismacolor pencils and added her to the painting along with some seashells and a little fish.
She is looking for a home too BTW - she is up on my Etsy shop - www.stampqueen.etsy.com
   Have a great day!!!

Turquoise geode I

Hallo,
Showing off the first of two paintings in this series. All encaustic wax.
It reminds me of a family vacation we took to Colorado when I was a kid. The rock they used on gravel roads in spots was waste rock from the silver mines. In silver mining they didn't really consider turquoise to be of any value so it went out with the waste rock - so often you could find little chunks of turquoise on the roads, especially when it rained.
The base layers of wax on this painting was from wax that I carved out of another painting - you can see it on the sides. It was carved out from one of the 'Canyonlands' series. Encaustic is too expensive to waste so the carvings make a good base as long as I know I am covering it up completely or need that color.( every painting starts with about 3 or 4 layers of base wax to 'prime' the panel).
The measurements are 16 inches wide by 12 tall and 1.5 inches deep.
You can find this painting for sale on Saatchiart  - www.saatchiart.com - Tera Fujan
Or I believe the direct link to my page on Saatchiart is -  https://www.saatchiart.com/terafujan

Two locker hook rugs

Hallo,
Just stopping in briefly to show you the latest 2 locker hook rugs I have finished.
These I am making for an Aunt whose Mom did a lot of sewing . When she passed away there was a lot of material stashed away. She sent me some and I am making them up for her to give to her sisters for Christmas.
The material is all double knit. It is pretty easy to work with and washes well. and double knit is durable too.
All for today - stay warm!!!

After

Hallo,
Well here are the after pictures - I have a ton more room on my work table - bigger table with very nice shelving underneath.
Still not much wiggle room to walk in but it is actually a bit more than before.
All for this am - a cold one this am in NW Florida - wind chills of 19 degrees. I don't mind so much but the wind is a bit chilly this am.

Before

Hallo,
So this is the before picture of my studio space over at HH Arts here in Fort Walton Beach Florida. I had gotten a good deal on the big table at a thrift shop but as I am trying to do a few bigger encaustic paintings it is just not big enough.
I found a quilters table on FB market place for a great price - even with paying the guy to deliver it for me. My old table - shown in this post is about 3 feet wide by 6 feet long. My new table (see tomorrows post) is 4 feet wide by 8 feet long and has shelves under it to store things.
What I have been using to hang paintings on in my studio space is something I built using fence panels - I hung peg board on one side and racks to hang shelves on the other side. I used it for some craft fairs and then in my studio space for the last almost 4 years. BUT....it is heavy as crap and takes up a lot of space - width wise. I have a new mesh and stainless hanger - a professional one 0 see tomorrows post.
I did have to get rid of the great little drafters table/art desk - but it did go to a good home, an artist friend of mine. and the fence hanger and a few other things too.
Tune in tomorrow to see the 'NEW' space - I still pack  a lot in the space but have a bit more room to move and a lot more room on my work space!!!
                                                         Have a great day!!!!
