Fall hydarngea

Hallo,

Last time I did this print up with encaustic, I 'pinked' it out. This time I stayed with the fall colors. This is a cyanotype print from one of my photos.

I colored in the hydrangea with pencils and then glued the print to a cradled wood panel. I then added several layers of encaustic medium and accented with encaustic paint a nd a bit of gold foil.

The painting is 8 by 10 inches and framed in a float frame.

All for today - Take Care

'O Clementine

Hallo,

I have been playing alot with the cyanotype prints I made a couple months ago and they are so much fun.

This was a photo of one of my Clementi flowers from my backyard(a few years ago) - turned into a transparency and used that to make the cyanotype print.

I then colored the flower with pencils and then glued the print to a cradled wood panel.

I added several layers of encaustic medium and then some accents in white and a bit of gold foil.

The painting is 8 by 10 inches, framed in a float frame.

This painting is in a show in Panama City Fl. at the moment.

    Have a great day!!!

Foggy Mountain sunset

Hallo,

Well, this painting started out as a cyanotype print of the 'creepy tree' from up by my brothers place in the Snowy Range of Wy.

Cant see much of the cyanotype print in these photos but it defiantly adds to the atmosphere in the background. I glued the print to a cradled wood panel and then added several layers of encaustic medium. Then I painted the tree and sky - and eventually the fog with encaustic paint.

8 by 10 inches framed in a float frame.

Purple and turquoise basket

Hallo,

Trying to get caught up here on my latest projects and eventually caught up on Etsy too. This basket and some others are at a Artisan Craft fair at the Arts and Design Society of Fort Walton Beach, Florida at the moment.

I wanted to use this big shell slice for a handle instead of the basket start - hadn't done one like it before so finding the best way to secure the shell as a handle was a challenge. It is pretty secure but may have to try something else next time to see what works better.

I used 1/4-inch coil and hemp twine to wrap. Added a few turquoise beads too.

All for today - Have a great weekend!!!

Iris Mania

Hallo,

And just to show that I am still doing some painting in the studio, this one I finished up over the weekend.

This panel is on its third (and last) rendition.....I had done 2 other paintings on this panel - well started them, didnt like them, set it aside, came back to it and started over...

I used some drawings from and old flower book printed onto tissue paper as an under drawing. In the first picture you can see the drawings and I was starting to color the background with pan pastels.

Pictures 3, 4 and 5 show the progression of one of the bigger iris.

The last 3 pictures are of the finished painting.

Encaustic wax with pan pastels and a bit of oil sticks. It measures 12 inches wide by 24 inches tall.

All for today - Have a great Monday ya'll.

A tisket, a tasket, another little basket....

Hallo,

Well these little baskets are such fun to make - keeps my hands busy while hanging out on the couch in the evenings watching TV/movies.

I had a pair of old earrings in my stash and decided to use the bigger part of each and make a couple baskets. The earring part is gold and black with rhinestones so I used some black and gold hemp twine for the wrapping. The base is a paper coil - first and second pics.

The basket measures 6.5 inches round and 2 inches deep.

All for now - have to get busy and finish cleaning my house.....I really like it when it is done but really greatly dislike the process of house cleaning!!!!

Digital butterfly

Hallo,

Another round of digital experimenting. These were done of a butterfly photo I took at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha Nebraska last fall.

I used mostly the same filters as yesterdays - not the steampunk one or the 'glass bird house.'

Didn't play as long with this photo as we were running out of time in the class.

All for now - Take Care

A dive into digital art....

Hallo,

I took a class this last weekend on digital art. This turned out to be quite fun and I can see wasting alot of time on the computer 'playing' if I don't watch myself!!! Rather dangerous.

You start with a photo - in this case its a photo I took of a faded and wilted bouquet, a bird feeder, and some wilted camelia flowers from my tree out front of my house.

The program picks up on the style and colors of the photo. Then you chose what filters to add (and there are ALOT to chose from) - you hit the go button and it shows you several options. You can save the pics at any time and then change the filters and go again - to the point that I can't even remember what ones I used for all of these. I think they included - underwater, iridescent, fantasy, bioluminescent, splash images....for the second to last one I added 'steampunk' and then on the last one I added 'glass bird house' as a typed in phrase (yup in addition to a bazillion filters you can type in stuff too).

I have so many ideas turning about in my head right now that its crazy. I want to try some photos of paintings I have done and well the list is rather long......

I will show you another example tomorrow.

  Take Care

Flower basket

Hallo,

Another basket to show you today - my time to paint in the studio has been a bit thin in the last couple weeks but there are works in progress.

I found a coupler cute vintage wood trays at a thrift shop and decided to use them as a basket start. The tray had a rim/lip on it that I drilled some holes into to attach the coil to. I had some hemp twine that matched the colors of the flowers too.

The basket is about  8.5 inches by 5.5 inches and about 2 inches tall.
