Antelope

Hallo,

Well I am headed to a show this week in Savannah but finished off 2 more paintings to take with me. This first photo is the finished painting and then I start with the basic background and the progression of the painting.

The painting is encaustic of course. I did several layers of medium to prime the board - this one is 8 by 8 inches. Next I did a basic background for my painting - sky and hills/ground. I used a photo that I took in Wyoming in early September somewhere alone Lone Bear Road/Ttt Ranch Road. I printed it out in color and embedded it into the wax. I usually print the photos in black and white because I use them as an under drawing, so it is completely covered with paint and the color won't show any how - but was trying out my sons color printer.....

I isolate the image and print it out onto tissue paper, when embedded into the wax the paper almost completely disappears, leaving you just the image. That is the third picture.

I then get out my hot pen with a fine tip and start adding encaustic paint to paint the image and then the background grasses. I enhanced the sky also with brushes and some pan pastels to add some depth and texture. The next several pictures show how the painting progressed from there.

The antelope alone took a bit over 3 hours to do and the grasses took about 4 or 5 hours....

All for today - Have another one for you tomorrow.

          Take Care
