Sunset

Hallo,

Back to making rugs during my couch/tv time in the evenings.

Cotton fabric for this one, in a sunset theme.

I have been teaching  a locker hook rug class with our local, all volunteer adult learning group here in town (CLL - Center for lifelong learning). This was a rug I started just before class started about a month ago to use to demonstrate with.

   All for today.

Another lighthouse

Hallo,

Finished this one off in the studio this weekend. The first pic is the finished painting and then I started with a sot from near the begining and progressing along the way.

The board is primed with about 4 layers of encaustic and then I started adding color for the sky/ocean and sand dunes.

Once I had the background where I wanted it - I added 2 layers of clear encaustic in preparation to incise the lines. Going for a vintage style map with the grid lines....

I took one shot with my hot pen and my favorite tip - the one I do most of the lighthouse, rocks and grasses/dunes with.

The last pic is a close-up of the finished lighthouse.

  This painting measures 12H by 16 W

  Have a great week.

Heron's rest

Hallo,

I finished this painting about a week and a half ago but it has been crazy busy lately for me....

I have a bunch of pics and the last 2 at the bottom are the finished piece - a close up of the heron and then the whole painting.

The background - sky and lake and beginnings of the tree line and marsh are all done in the usual way with encaustic wax - melted layers painted with brushes and fused with a torch.  Some textures added with brushes and fused and then I started with my hot pen stylus. I added details to the tree line and the marsh grasses with the fine tip hot pen.

I almost stopped there because I really liked it(third picture), but the more I looked at it the more it told me it needed just a little bit more.

I printed out a picture of the heron from a book I have on clip art, onto rice paper and embedded it into the painting with clear encaustic(noncolored). I then used the hot pen stylus to paint in the heron.

The 5th picture shows the hot pen tip I used. The heron alone took me about 5 hours to do but I am super happy with how he turned out!!!! The marsh grasses took me almost 2 hours.

I should have this one listed on my Etsy and Redbubble sites by the end of the week....

Coral Forest - black and white rework.

Hallo,
I did this black and white coral painting several years ago for a black and white themed show and it has been asking for color for some time now. So this weekend I decided to give it the color it so desired. The painting was originally done in late 2017.....
The first 3 pics show the progression  and the last 3 pics show the final piece.
I used oil sticks mostly for the color on top of the original wax, along with a couple light layers of plain medium to seal in the oil sticks better.
All for today - Take Care

Vintage ocean map

Hallo,

This painting is 24 by 36 inches and I really love how this one turned out!!! I had done the background and the grid and really liked it but it just needed a bit of something else.

I printed off 2 images onto rice paper and embedded them into the wax and then painted over them with my hot pens. One pen I have a very fine tip on, like an old fountain pen. and the other I switched back and forth between 2 small flat tips like an iron for smoothing.

First photo is the finished painting and then a few pics of the progression.  Towards the end are some close ups and one shows the sailboat in progress and finished.

The painting still has the wide open space feel I liked but a few places added for the eyes to 'land'.

   Have a great day!!!

Ocean map 2

Hallo,

Another small grid line ocean type painting - can for the life of me think of a good name for this series of paintings. I wanted to leave one of these alone at this point. Yesterdays painting was very similar until I added some images and antiqued it with a transparent tea colored glaze.

All for today - Have a great one!!!

Ocean grid lines - vintage map style

Hallo,

Some good time in the studio this weekend, finished off several paintings.

This one is a small 8 by 8 inch encaustic with a couple embedded images.

Inspired by one of the classes with an online course I am taking called 'Painting with Fire'  The grid lines have an old world map flair to it.

First and last photos are the finished painting and the rest between show the progression of this painting.

All for today - Take Care!!
