I have had this basket start for quite awhile and decided it was time to use it - had to finagle a bit because the holes were smaller than the needle I usually use but I managed.
I also used some yarn from my endless stash in my craft room (I haven't knitted in over 10 years but I still have alot of yarn!!!). This was a variegated skein and I have a couple more left...
The basket is about 7 inches round and about 2 inches tall.

Another basket using a vintage plate for the base. I went with colors to match the plate. It is about 9 inches round and 2.5 inches tall.

This was a quick basket using a bit thicker cording than I usually use, with a slice of a seashell for the base.
It is about 5 inches round and 2.5 inches tall.

With all the driving we did in our travels the last 2 weeks of sept, I got a few baskets done ( hubby does all the driving - I just navigate...)
This is a vintage hand painted plate that I used as a base for this basket .
I used cording in greens and yellow to kinda match the plate a bit.
It is about 8 inches round and 2 inches tall.

This little hexagon painting is 8 by 8 inches, cyanotype with encaustic painted over the top. I also added some fall eaves collected while we were on vacation up north the end of sept.

Time to play catch up again - first the paintings over the next couple of days and then the baskets and finally some pics of our travels the end of sept.

This painting is 15 by 22 inches and is framed in a black float frame (didn't get a pic after I framed it). I started with a cyanotype print and painted over it with encaustic.
This has been a fun series for me and lots more to come!!!

Another small basket to show off today. Hand painted vintage plate used for the base, it is 8 inches round and 2 inches tall.
This basket took around 7 hours for me to make.

Another pelican painting for you today. Pelicans can often be found hanging out near the piers here in NW Florida and I have a ton of photos to work with.
I use some of my photos as an under drawing for my encaustic paintings. I paint the background first with the encaustic. I take an isolated photo printed onto tissue paper and embed it into the wax. The tissue disappears and leaves me a nice drawing to work with.
I used hot pens with several different tips to paint the pelican and then added in the pier posts.
The painting is 14w by 11 h and framed in a black float frame, wired and ready to hang. You can find it on my Etsy shop -( www.translucentfirefly.etsy.com ).

I have been working on this one awhile now - course I have only about one day a week in the studio, so it takes longer. I am really looking forward to retirement and spending more time in my studio!!! (19 working days left!!!)
With this encaustic painting I did the background first and then used one of my own photos embedded into the wax as an underpainting for the pelican.
I isolated the pelican and printed him in black and white onto tissue paper. The tissue paper disappears nicely into the wax and leaves me a nice "drawing" to paint. I use hot pens and several different sizes of tips to paint with the wax.
The painting is 20w by 16 h and framed in a float frame with gold trim. Wired, ready to hang and available on my Etsy shop - Translucent Firefly ( www.translucentfirefly.etsy.com )

I couldn't resist using bright colors for this basket with those beautiful pansies.
This vintage wall plate is hand painted and signed and makes the cutest basket!!! It is 11 inches round and 3 inches tall.

Finished off this little basket last night - 8 inches round by 2 inches deep.
I love the mountain scene on this vintage wall plate. I really made a cute basket!!!
Between the plate and other supplies - about 50 dollars cost for materials and almost 7 hours to make.

I am taking a break from yard work this morning before work - too HOT, and my back has not enjoyed the last few days trying to get my flowers beds back in some semblance of order!!!
I finished off this basket yesterday.
The base was made with some rock slices, black pebbles and resin. I do love me some pretty rocks!!
The basket is 14 inches round and 3.5 inches tall.
It took me around 25 hours to make.
All for today - gotta go to work I guess - only 31 working days let till retirement after today!!!!!
