Hallo,
Well I am enjoying having every weekend off and tomorrow I will be enjoying having all the government holidays off to (Columbus Day) - although I have to revamp my organizational skills to get errands and chores done on weekdays after work (8 hours shifts instead of 12!!)
That's the first bit of good news - my new job at the Base hospital on the Air Force base right by me in their recovery room!!!
Second bit of good news is that I won FIRST PLACE in our local art show this month!!! The theme was 'urban' and this is the one that won (my last blog post was a very similar encaustic piece - I did both at the same time and the last one was a bit darker and this one lighter, and I chose to enter this one.) This is my first First Place so I am pretty happy - so far all I have won is 1 Honorable Mention and I was pretty happy with that one too!!!!
And last but not least I just found out earlier last week that I am going to be on the Design Team for Paper Temptress which is just loads of goodness!!! She has the greatest papers - cryogen white and Neenah both of which I use almost exclusively for my coloring - be it markers or pencils!!!, then there is the metallics and the leather papers oh so yummy!!! I am really looking forward to trying out some other lines I haven't had a chance to yet!!!
All for me today - have to start getting stuff gathered and organized for the craft fair I have on Saturday - I need to have it ready to go because set up is Friday evening, and I only have about an hour after work until I want to get over to the Gallery that my studio and my art is in, because we are having a 'Meet the Artist' night with wine, cheese, snacks ect. - and low and behold I am one of the 'Artists'!!!!

Foggy City Night
Hallo,
Just a quick post as I am off to work - a picture of a recent encaustic wax painting that I finished off. I did 2 in this theme for the current show at my local Arts and Design Society and this one is the night time (a bit darker) version.
The lighter/daytime version I will get some pics of this weekend - It won First Place in this months show. I was so excited as it is my first First Place ever!!!
All for now - gotta run.

Angel
Hallo,
Another little decorative box for you today using the same image as the last one with a different color scheme. She is called 'Blue Star Angel' by Karen Middleton.
I colored her with prismacolor and polychrome pencils and accented the layers with gold mettalic pen.
I decorated the box with pretty papers and used a drawer pull for the lid handle and wooden pieces (painted mettalic gold) for 'feet'.
I added some pretty flowers and some white corner pieces too. The inside bottom is lined with felt.
All for today - pups need to get a walk in here( well so do I :)

Little Angel - gift box
Hallo,
Just a quick note before I head off to work this am to show you a sweet little box that I made/altered.
I used a cigar box and covered it with pretty papers and this sweet image from Sweet Pea Stamps called 'Blue Star Angel by Karen Middleton.
I colored the image with prismacolor and polychrome pencils and then edged her panel with copper metallic pen.
I also used the copper metallic pen on the little wood pieces I used for 'feet'.
Had fun digging through my stash for pretties to go with this image - loving the copper and fall tones lately.
I used an old drawer pull for the handle - drilled a little hole so I could screw it on instead of glue it so it would be a bit more sturdy.
I really love doing boxes like this - have a few more in the works so stop back later this week :)

Steampunk vase
Hallo,
A short note tonight with a 'vase' I finished off yesterday. I used a 'gray goose' alcohol bottle and spray painted it white. Next I tangled it with a sharpie marker.
I tried to use tangles that were more 'steampunk' in feel.
When done I used a fixative on it and then several layers of acrylic sealer so it can be washed off.
I spent some time in the craft room yesterday and today with a few hours today in the studio too - have an encaustic piece I want to finish in time for the next show at our local Arts and Design society - which is a beach theme.
Later in the week I will show you my FIRST Prize winning wax piece from our current show!!!!
Yes I said FIRST PRIZE - my very first one!!!! I was very surprised and excited!!!!
All for tonight - Take Cate
