Fire in the sky

Hallo,

Just a quick post this afternoon. I finished off this painting last weekend and just hadnt had time to share as of yet.

This is 10 inches wide by 20 tall, encaustic. I used a photo I took a few years ago in Nebraska, printed onto tissue paper and embedded into the wax after I had done the background. I used the photo as an under drawing and added paint over the drawing and added a few freehand branches of my own.

The first photo is the final painting and the other three show more of the progression of the painting.

All for today - Have a great weekend!!!

Old barns, buildings and the Bohemian Alps

Hallo,

Went driving around a bit in the Bohemian Alps of Nebraska one day while I was home. The only day I really had turned out VERY COLD AND WINDY, so I wasnt out for long.  I mainly took photos from the road as I didnt have permission to tramp around AND it was just to blasted cold!!!

The last 3 photos were taken on the old farm place owned by my folks. And the 2 pics of the road were for all those folks who think that Nebraska is flat. These were the nice rolling hills - we didnt go very far or I would have gotten some better hill shots.

All for today - Take Care

Snow day

Hallo,

A few snowy pics today from my trip back home to Nebraska to visit my folks. Living in Florida, I haven't seen snow in over 10 years so I was a happy camper. Just enough snow to make everything pretty without it being to cold or windy!!!

I had to drive in it a little and was gratified to know that I can still drive in the snow and (later in the week) ice!! The snow was melted by about 11 and later in the week I drove down to Lincoln in rain/sleet/ice mix - mostly rain.

Seashell slice basket.

Hallo,

Another small basket that I finished off while I was on my trip back home to Nebraska. I found these seashell slices at one of our local Antique/junk/gift/chochkey shops here in town and thought this one would make a good start to a basket - it is a flat slice and no need to drill holes.

I used a paper coil again and wrapped with hemp twines. I really like how this one turned out - I am slowly learning.

I also brought along on my trip with me  2 books on coiling/basket making by Sande Rowen 'The Joy of basket making 1 and 2. She uses pine needs but the principals are similar and I got alot of ideas for how to do handles, lids, adding beads and other design ideas.

My pictures start out at the begining and the last 3 photos are the finished basket.

Seashell basket

Hallo,

I havent been in the studio much lately - made a short trip to Nebraska to visit with my Mom and Step -Dad. Got to see snow for the first time in over 10 years which was nice - had to drive in some rain/sleet/ice one day which was not nice but good to know that my winter driving skills are still intact.

This little basket is my first experiment  with using something as a 'start' for the bottom of the basket and first time using a shell. I had thought about a bigger shell but this was as I was packing my suitcase to fly home and it was all I had. My hubby drilled some holes for my and I stuck it in my suitcase. I  really need some kind of handwork when sitting watching TV in the evenings and this one was small enough that I could pack up a small project box.

I learned a couple things with this one. I coiled the first cow under the edge of the shell thinking to support the edge better but it made it really hard to attach the second row - I should have done the first row along side the shell edge. And 2 (which I kinda knew from the start) the rounded shell doesnt make a good bottom - it would probably make a good handle or lid topper though. Something to keep in mind.

I used paper coil for the center and hemp twine to wrap with.

This will be a cute little basket to add to my growing pile for my Grandbaby to play with.

All for now - Talke Care

Coiling cup and saucer

Hallo,

Just a quick post this am. I have finished off a few more coiling projects for my Granddaughters toy box.

I still don't have a great way to add a handle but this one didn't turn out too bad.  This 'cup' is more like a small soup bowl, but I have a smaller one in the works. New this time was adding a second color in - the lighter blue.

The last 2 pics are 2 little plates made with a multicolored yarn.

All for today - I have plans for some fancier baskets soon....

   Take Care
