Get well Karen

Welcome to a special blog hop we are calling, Karing for Karen!! A hop for a very special friend of ours, Karen Knegten. If you have been around the stamping community for any length of time at all, you might have run into Karen. She is always participating in challenges, offering us wonderful inspiration with her awesome talent! About a month ago, Karen had to have surgery for two brain aneurysms. She is still in the hospital and we are having this blog to inspire more of you out there to send in some cards to Karen AND to her family that is caring for her too!   I am a bit behind the power curve this am as I thought we were starting our hop this evening as most of our CSS hops do....so I am late, I had my card mostly done, just had to finish, photo and type when I discovered I was late (after a bit of very humid warm yard work - summer in Florida has begun!!)
   I love this stamp from Inkadinkado - I have a bunch of blue bottles on my porch and the sun shines through them so gloriously in the morning here and I even have flowers blooming to put in them too!!! So I am sending Karen a bit of sunshine straight from my back porch today!!!
  I colored them with copics and the phrase is from Gina K - even the set is called 'Sending Sunshine' :)
  All for me today - going to try to get some house cleaning done and clean out my old mini van - starting to smell like old sneakers in there......

Briefcase Project

Hallo,
Well today is my 3rd 12 hour shift in a row and I am TIRED - glad its my last (at least for a couple days ) - I used to be able to do a bunch of these 12 hr. shifts in a row but not lately - does that mean I am getting old?
Any way I decided to show you pics of a briefcase that I am recovering. It was found at a thrift store and its in really good shape - except for scratches on the out side which I don't care about. This is a thicker briefcase - about 3 inches but as you can see in the photos - lots of room for files and such.
I started with the sheet of Faux Designer Paper that I made and made a bunch of copies.... Then I cut them up into random pieces - mostly triangles, and edged them with red distress ink.
The last pic for today is the beginings of my decoupage work to cover the briefcase. Once I have it covered I will seal with with acrylic sealer and then decorate it furthor - probably sealing it again after I decorate. I have plans for a sketchbook to match .

China girl

A quick little post today - I am at work today......

I used the first sheet of Faux Designer Paper from yesterdays post.

Stamped and embossed the Girl - from Stampin Up - in red, and then cut it out with a nesties label die. I edged it with gold mettalic pen. The red layer is torn and distressed a bit for more texture. The base cardstock was stamped with the oriental writing.


While going through my stash for something to embellish with, I came upon these 2 little red dominos and stamped on the back with white staz on. And a bit of gold cord added for good measure....

Choose Thoughts - gold

Hallo,
Another short post today - when I went to pull out paper for yesterdays journal this goldish paper jumped out and said 'me too, me too' so I did 2 journals instead of one. I have one more craft fair in Novemeber and I need to use up some of my stash anyway.....

Choose Thoughts - teal

Hallo,
This may look familiar as I did a plaque with this same theme and colors. Last saturday at the craft fair soemone asked me to do the plaque as a journal so here it is.
The butterfly is from Inkadinkado and colored with copics, and the phrase is from Chery Pie stamps.
I trimmed it up with some purple paper edged with a punch.
The little crown is accually clear but in the close up it showed up orangeish - and it took me almost 10 minutes to figure out why - I was wearing an orange shirt when I took the photo.
Short on wordage tonight - :) Short for tomorrow too and then we will see ya on Monday.

Purple Butterfly plaque

Last of this series of plaques for you - the purple one. I edged the black and whire DP with dark purple and glued all the layers down with gold sparkle mod podge (although you can't see it in the pics very well). Added some corners and fragments from Tim Holtz and a phrase from Gina K.
The butterfly is from Inkadinkado - colored with copics, clear embossed and sponged with light and dark purple and navy. Edged with a dark blue violet copic marker. The flourish is from Cherry Pie.
Preposting and short today as I am at work today :).

Orange Butterfly plaque

Hallo,
Here's plaque Number 2 - This one was done with the orange paper. I edged the DP with navy ink and didn't really like how it looked but made it up while trying to think of a way to 'fix' it.
I used corners and fragments from Tim Holtz, and some copper wire to make the hanger. The butterfly image is from Inkadinkado and colored with copics, clear embossed and then sponged with light purple, dark purple and navy inks, edged with a dark blue violet copic marker. The flourish is from Cherry Pie. I glued all the layers with gold sparkle mod podge. The phrase on the fragments is from Gina K.
The last thing I did on the plaque was stamp the flourish in white staz on on the edges and I liked how that looked much better! (covers up the navy that I got a little heavy on :)).
All for today - errands to run, chores to do and the craft room is calling :)

Teal butterfly plaque

Hallo,
Lazy weekend for me - except for having one sick kiddo and one with a minor injury - did some of their chores (DH did some) and had a little time to spend at the craft table.
Yup I didnot decide which backround paper to use - I used all 3 and made 3 different plaques.
Here's the first one - with the teal paper. I added some corners and fragments from Tim Holtz and on this one a phrase from Cherry Pie.
I edged the paper with navy ink and used gold sparkle mod podge to glue the paper layers - although it is hard to see here.
The butterfly stamp is from Inkadinkado - colored with copics, clear embossed, and sponged with light purple, dark purple and navy, edged with a dark blue violet copic. The flourish and phrase are from Cherry Pie.
And I used some recycled copper wire to make the hanger. (DH works at a recycle center and when someone turns in unstriped sections of wiring from a construction site they don't use it because it takes alot of work to strip the rubber off to get to the wire...sooo he brings it home, strips it and then turns it in - after I grab a couple pieces....).
All for today - since I was soo lazy this weekend - I need to get some yard work and house work done today...... I have DD home sick today - she feels better but still not up to going to school....

Decisions, Decisions....

Hallo,
I did manage to get some crafting time yesterday - while I had another Halloween plaque drying I added to this butterfly image that I colored on the couch the other night.
I have had a thing to try orange and teal lately and finally did on this butterfly - I will show you the decorative bag that inspired that color combo soon. I colored over the butterfly with clear embossing ink and embossed it with clear powder and then I sponged the backround - light purple first, then dark purple and then navy blue . Then I stamped the flourish - from Cherry Pie - in


brown ink and edged the panel with violet blue copic marker.
I want to use this panel on a plaque like the one I used for the Halloween one - the problem came when I tried to decide which paper I wanted behind this panel.......
With the black and white paper I would edge/distress the edges with either teal or purple - or both....
With the orange paper I would edge/distress it with teal and navy...
And with the teal paper I would probably edge/distress the edges with dark teal and purple......


BUT the big question is which one!!!!!!
So if there is anyone out there looking today please drop me a line and tell me which one you think would look best - or maybe I should just do all 3.....
I am at work today so will turn this over and over in my head the next 2 days and we'll see what I can decide by the weekend - meanwhile I think I will color 2 more just like this one just in case....

Singing Pumpkins

Hallo,
I finally managed to get my day rolling and get some errands done - spent along time on the phone this am. Talked with my Mom for quite awhile and then one of my greatest friends from AZ called and we talked about an hour - we hadn't talked in quite awhile so alot of catching up to do with personal and family stuff and then of course since she is an ICU Nurse also we always end up talking about work.......
Anyway - todays project was going to be a card when I started it but it turned into a plaque instead.... I found the wood plaque at the Dollar store and replaced the string to hang it with wire (after decorating it of course).
The main image is some cute singing pumpkins from Holly Berry which I colored with my copics, then I added the spider flourish from Inkadinkado and the Happy Halloween is from Hero Arts (a long time ago - 1990 - but one of my most used at Halloween time).
As I was deciding how to make the panel into a card I found the orange/red paper somewhere in the many piles on and around my desk and thats when the idea for the plaque came - I glued the paper and panel on with mod podge and let it dry.


Next I painted the edges with walnut stain crackle paint and let it dry. After it was dry I rubbed walnut stain ink over the crackle and then added the wire.
I may have to make up a few more of these....
I have been coloring on the couch in the evenings the last couple days so we'll see if I can get any of them made up into cards or plaques today - I have some house cleaning to do yet and some sprucing up in the craft room to do also before I can craft - I bought my self a big CD rack that holds a bout 900 CD's and it spins - was really hoping it would fit right by my desk but it doesn't :( - so it will be at the edge of my craft room for now (until I can get some of my piles taken care of - literally piles of stuff I have found at thrift stores and garage sales that I plan to alter.....)


Well if I am to get anything crafty done today, I had best get to my chores!!!!
Don't be too surprised if I don't post the next couple days - I work the next 2 so if I don't get anything crafty done today then I will plan on seeing you all on monday!!!

Rockin Gift box

Hallo,
On the road today - listening to the first book of Robert Jordans - Wheel of Time series while I am driving (on CD).....and planning on 2 stamp store stops in Jacksonville on the way :).
Sad when the nearest stamp store is a 5 hour drive - thank goodness for the internet!!!!!
Todays project is another altered cigar box - Rocker style.
All stamps are from Inkadinado - I am slowing shrinking my pile of garage sale/thrift store finds.....maybe I will even be able to walk in my craft room in a couple months.....

Rockin Ink...adinkado

Hallo,
Just a short post for ya today - trying to get laundry done and all packed for my weekend trip. I have a Nursing conferance over the weekend in Hilton Head S.C.. I am driving up tomorrow via Jacksonville - have 2 stamp store stops plotted there :).
I made up a few more Rocker cards today to go with a gift box that I will show you tomorrow.
The stamps are from Inkadinkado.
With this first one - I stamped/embossed in black and then cut the image out with my nesties. Leaving the die on the cardstock I sponged ink over the image for the backround which leaves a nice white edge - then I put a thin edge of silver pen on it.

These last 2 cards I stamped the guitar and phrase - also Inkadinkado - on to vellum and embossed with white.

All for today 0 need to get a coiple things done in the craft room also - in addition to packing. I will be preposting for the rest of the week and begininging of next week (I work 4 of 5 days in a row when I get back from my trip so won't be too much time to stamp then...)
