Quick warm up pieces

Hallo,

We had Open House this weekend at the gallery where my art and studio are and I wanted to do some quick demo's as give aways after the demo.

I dont normally paint encuastic onto paper but it makes for a quick warm up project sometimes and easy for quick demos.

I used a heavy mixed media paper(next time I will probably use a heavy watercolor paper as it would be a bit more sturdy)

About 5 layers of encaustic and then added some texture with various things. I used oil stick for color and to accent the textures and then highlighted with some pan pastels.

Makes for a fun  way to warm up and get in the grove of painting, might be doing these more often.

Vase with leaves

Hallo

Another recent experiment to show you today. Encaustic doesnt adhere well to plastic or glass  or glazed ceramic. This old ceramic vase had some chips in it so I decided to play with some plastercloth and see what happened.

I covered the outside of the vase with plastercloth and let it dry for a few days and then did the encaustic painting over the top of the plastercloth. Over all it worked pretty well and I am pleased with the result. May have to try some more of these sometime.

Sweet little boxes

Hallo,

Just a quick little post to show off a couple little wooden boxes I experimented with a couple weeks ago.

The boxes are about 3 inches by 4 and half inch deep. I did a bit of encaustic painting on the tops and then painted the sides gold.

  Turned out kinda cute .

Hide and seek

Hallo,

Just a quick post with another little driftwood encaustic piece.

The base is an 8 by 8 inch cradled panel with a small piece of driftwood secured to it.

The octopus and all coral in front are made with paper clay and painted with encaustic.

The red fan coral behind the octopus is made from sisal rope and painted with encaustic.

This was a very hard piece to photograph and he looks much better in person. The octopus kinda hides in all the coral - which is of course what octopus do!!!

All for tonight - have a great week!!
