Butterfly basket 1

 Hallo,

A small basket to show off today. For the basket start (aka bottom) I used an old drink coaster from the 70's. These came with a big tray for the drink picture and usually 6 individual coasters for the glasses. The big tray and one of the glass coasters were broken when I found these but 5 are good to use.  The finished basket is 7 inches round by 3 inches tall.
I started this basket on my flight to Wyoming last week, worked on it a bit during the week - something to clear my brain before bed. I finished this one on the flight back and started another - tune in tomorrow.
    Have a great week.

Butterfly basket - 2

 Hallo,

Back with another small basket for you. I started this one on my flight back from Wyoming last week and finished it off this last weekend. I like to keep my hands busy when I am sitting on the couch in the evenings watching TV.

I used another one of the little drink glass coasters - circa 1970's. It measures 6 inches round by 2.5 inches tall.

     Have a great day!!!

Photo encaustic class at Eaton's Ranch.

   Hallo,

I spent all of last week up in Wyoming at Eaton's Ranch for a photo encaustic class. Using our own photos in our encaustic paintings. Of course, being at the ranch means lots of horses to take pictures of. These are the 4 paintings I finished last week.(looks like you will need to click on the photo to see all 4...)
The top left and bottom 2 paintings combined 2 different photos for each. The first photo was printed onto cardstock and glued to the wood panel.  I then added several layers of encaustic to add effects to the background I wanted to achieve. The next step was to print the horse images onto tissue paper and embed them into the wax. I then added more encaustic wax to enhance and finished off the paintings.
In the top left one I added a border in texture white and gold encaustic and then carved in the ranches brand.
The top right painting I painted the background with encaustic and then embedded the horse image into the wax. I then added encaustic and texture to finish off the painting.
If you ever wanted to learn this way to use photos with encaustic wax, then take a class with Clare O'Neill - this is the second time I have done this class. A week of horses, horseback riding and painting is my idea of a great vacation!!!
    Have a great day!!!

Roses are red basket

Hallo again,
Another basket to show you today.
The base is a vintage plate with holes around the edge. It is hand painted. They were used back in the day to hang on your wall for decoration. I found a few at a local thrift shop and figured the holes would make it the perfect basket start. And it is such a pretty plate!!
The basket is 10 inches round and 4 inches high and took me about 15 hours to make - not counting thrift shop shopping time :).
I have a nice 'little' pile of pretty plates to use.....

Heron basket

Hallo,
Finished off this basket a couple weeks ago. It is 17 inches long by 13.5 wide and 4 inches tall.
The bottom of the basket is a pottery plate made for me by a friend who does pottery. She made it with the holes around the edges for me to use as a basket start.
To make the basket part took me a total of 44 hours. It turned out really pretty I think!!
All for today - Take Care

Hydrangea Bees

Hallo,
Another flower and bee painting. It is 15 by 22 inches and framed in a black float frame.
I started with a cyanotype print. I glued it to a cradled wood panel and added several layers of encaustic. Then I painted the hydrangeas and the other flowers with encaustic using my hot pen. I added the honeycomb with a stencil and modified it a bit and added some oil stick.
I am enjoying this series... a couple more to do yet....
