Locker hook rug - blues and grays

Hallo,

Two years ago we remolded our house a bit with most of the changes in the kitchen. I finally got around to making a locker hook rug to match the new colors. I used my pretty backsplash as the inspiration and love how it turned out.

I have a couple rugs to make for other people but then I am going to make another rug for in front of my stove. I will use the same colors I think but do a different pattern.

All for now - have a great week!!!

Another sunset locker hook rug.

Hallo,

Another locker hook rug with a sunset theme. Both of these recent rugs will be mailed out soon to 2 of my Nieces.

Over the last few years I have tried to do a rug for both our Moms, all our siblings and the Nieces and Nephews and I am down to just 5 left to do  - plus a couple new ones for myself to match my kitchen remodel.....

All for today - Take Care

Sunset

Hallo,

Back to making rugs during my couch/tv time in the evenings.

Cotton fabric for this one, in a sunset theme.

I have been teaching  a locker hook rug class with our local, all volunteer adult learning group here in town (CLL - Center for lifelong learning). This was a rug I started just before class started about a month ago to use to demonstrate with.

   All for today.

Locker hook rug with yarn

 Hallo,
I had a bunch of thick yard left from several projects and decided to use them up by doing a locker hook rug.
The yarn rugs go quickly and are really soft but they do take alot of yarn.

Locker hook rug - 70's orange and greens

Hallo,
A quick stop in this morning to show you the latest locker hook rug that I finished. I made up a few lately for an Aunt of mine - they are made with vintage double knit fabrics from her Mom's stash.
Measurements are about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long - which is about the size I make most of them - big enough to use at the sink or in a hallway without getting too big to work on easily.
This one is done in greens and various fabrics with orange in them - 70's orange I call them.
It takes me about 30 hours to do one of these rugs - cutting the fabric into strips, preparing the base canvas and then actually doing the locker hooking.
All for today - stop back tomorrow, I am catching up showing you recent projects in the next few days....

Log cabin locker hook

 Hallo,
Just dropping by to show you the latest rug I made. This rug is about 3 feet long by 2 feet wide and is made of some vintage double knit fabrics from my Aunt's Mom.
A total of around 30 hours it took me to do this rug.
The cool thing about double knit is that like the cotton it is washable and very durable. It turns out a run that is a bit heavier than cotton but also a bit plusher, softer....
All for today - gotta get off to work here in a bit.

Double knit in pink

 Hallo,
Well I have been busy - have about 5 paintings in the works at the studio. One is encaustic that I am carving into and is taking me a long time, and the other 4 are cold wax and oils that I am gradually building up layers and sort of experimenting with, oh and another encaustic that with be a still life painted from photos of my orchids.....
Meanwhile on the couch in the evenings I have been working on this locker hook rug. It is made with double knit fabric that I got when an Aunt of mine was helping her Mom destash - most of these fabric patterns are vintage but I don't know just how old they are. I have enough of the pinks for at least on more rug - they are about 2 feet by 3 feet. Then I have a bunch of blues to make about 2 rugs and enough browns and oranges for probably just one...….Keeps my hands busy when sitting on the couch in the evenings after dinner, well that and coloring.....
All for today -hopefully I will have some paintings to show you soon.

Lockerhook Rug

 Hallo,
I finished off another rug this weekend - been working on it for several months(a couple hours a night).
It measures 33 inches wide and 58 inches long and is made from an interlockin fabric  that is kind of like a thinner soft knit fabric and makes a really thick soft rug.
Time to get out the door for brunch for Father's Day.

Locker Hook rug

 Hallo,
Just a quick post today - I finished off this locker hook rug over the weekend. I have been working on it for about 4 or 5 months, an hour or 2 in the evenings on the couch at a time.
Simple design that I just drew with a black sharpie and then did 5 stick squares following the line....
It went pretty fast once I got done with my curve design - straight lines are quicker.
All for today - craft room a callin :)

Locker hook for Mom

 Hallo,
I finished off a rug for my Mom today for her Birthday. She wanted one just like the one I made for my son so she already knows what it looks like :)
My puppy Duke seems to approve - Kyna was too busy watching for killer squirrels (she doesn't like having her picture taken anyway :)
All for today - trying to get back in the swing of things  - lots of stress around me lately......sigh......but now I have some time off and will recoup a bit.

A rug for Grandma

Hallo,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas season - is everyone all decorated, baked, and shopped out yet :)
My DS got home from college yesterday - and the pups are loving the extra attention. My DD is in route driving and will be home tomorrow evening. Glad I have the weekend off!!!
I finished off this rug about mid December and sent it off to my MIL for Christmas - since she has already opened her present I will go ahead and show you all now :)
I did this locker hook rug with cotton fabrics and used a quilt style pattern called 'log cabin',  and really like how it turned out!!! It is edged in black and the individual panels are outlined in black and then I filled in with tans, browns and blues.
I have already started another rug that my Mom asked me to make - I usually work on my rugs in the evening on the couch while watching tv (if I am not coloring anyhow).
I got to figuring and I probably have enough material of several types to make at least 5 rugs - I am collecting jeans for a couple denim ones and there have been some good stuff at the thrift shops lately  - when I can get good stuff for great low prices I grab it - but I spose I had better stop that for a bit as I am running out of room to store it all.....
All for now - Have a great weekend!!!!

A rug for off to college

 Hallo,
I haven't actually gotten in my craft room much lately - with my DD in there and this rug to finish before the kids go off  to college, and the packed bags and boxes sitting everywhere.....
I started this rug for my son to take to college with his - started it in May I believe and mostly worked on it in the evenings - a couple hours at  time until this last month where I have worked on it more in the daytime too.
It measures 33 inches by 57 inches - so almost a yard wide by little over a yard and 1/2 long.
Its make from a fabric called 'interlock or interlocken' and feels like a thinner soft knit. Someone I meet at the fabric store one day had a bunch of leftovers of this material from her creative endeavors and didn't know what to do with it all - the fabric is a bit more on the expensive side but her scraps weren't big enough for any of her projects. She ended up giving me all her scraps - mostly red and black but a bunch of white too - I have enough after this rug to make at least another the same size and probably a smaller one too....... First I have to finish off a rug for a Christmas present and then I may go back and make another like this one....the interlock is very easy to work with for the rugs and should be pretty durable too.....guess we will find out after my DS tests it out in his dorm room for awhile :)
All for now - I need to try and get some more sleep before work tonight - haven't been sleeping well lately.......

Another locker hook project

 Hallo,
Well I have survived Graduation week....my poor Mom's flight was cancelled this am and they rescheduled her to get in at home at 11 pm..... she lives another hour from the airport so that was not a good thing....managed to get it changed so she gets in at 930 which is a bit better.....her flight got messed up on the way down here too....
So today was a bit of cleaning up and running errands that didn't get done last week - tomorrow I will have a few more errands but should get some craft room time too and then the rest of the week should be all craft room :)!!!!
Even though I didn't get  much done in the craft room this last week but did get a bit done on the new rug I started a couple weeks ago. This will be for my son to take to college with him.
He is also going to be going to University of Nebraska, Lincoln and will be in ROTC and a Biology major - with emphasis on Human biology and anatomy and physiology.....
The colors are perfect for my son and will be kinda funky and geometric.....
   Have a great day!!!!

Quilt style locker hook rug

 Hallo,
I finished off another locker hook rug the other night - I plan for this one to be a Christmas present for one of the Mom's - and I will be making another one with the same fabrics - probably the same pattern, although I thought about trying a 'log-cabin' type pattern - quilt style.
This rug measures - 32 inches by 52.5 inches - or 2 foot 8 inches by 4 foot 4 inches.
Just out of curiosity and a bit of Type A-ness, I kept track (for the most part) of how long I worked on this rug and how many yards of material are in it.
There were times that I sat down and worked on the rug for 15/20 minutes and forgot to write it down but I think I didn't miss too many so the total on that is at least 112 hours of working on the rug - starting from cutting material and preparing the canvas.
And there is about 25 yards of material in this rug. 100% cotton and mostly quilting fabrics because they are good durable fabrics. Most of the fabric I got on sale - even if only 30 or 40% off, so there is at least 130 dollars worth of material (give or take depending on sales - and I really didn't keep track) plus a bit for the canvas and the locking thread.
Almost all of the time I worked on it was while watching TV with the family in the evenings - I always have something to do in the evenings - either the rugs or coloring, or some other crafty thing...
The rugs are easy to do and very relaxing too!!!
My next rug is going to be for my son to take to college with him then I can get the second one of this style done :)
All for today - Take Care

Quilt style locker hook

 Hallo,
I finished off this rug last night - I took a quilt pattern that I have seen and tried to do it in the locker hook. I thought it turned out pretty good - I do need to fine tune just a bit where the points meet in the center but overall I like the pattern.
The finished size is approximately 28 by 34 inches and this one took me 59 and 1/2 hours to do. The last one this size had a smaller pattern and more switching of colors and took me about 10 hours more work to finish.
I have 2 rugs that I want to do for Christmas presents that I will be starting next and I plan to use this pattern - I am going to try and cut the fabric in 1 yard increments so I can keep track better of how much fabric goes into one of these rugs.
I took some time and played with wax again today  - wont have a good block of time again for wax until next week so I will put it all away tonight so I can have a bit of elbow room in my craft space. I am planning on cutting fabric tomorrow for my next 2 rugs (they will use the same pattern and fabrics ...but I will vary which colors are the triangles though)
All for tonight - Take Care
